Partner Acrobatics in Zürich

Partner acrobatics is the sharper, more athletic side of the same practice: standing work, hand-to-hand, counterweights and dynamic transitions between them. Where acroyoga flows, partner acrobatics holds, and then throws.

It asks more of you than acroyoga does, and the catalogue reflects that. These are multilevel and advanced classes, not first classes. If you have never based or flown anybody, an acroyoga Introduction cycle is where to begin, and partner acrobatics will still be here when you want it.

Alongside the weekly work we run intensives and mountain retreats, where a weekend or a week of nothing but training moves skills that months of once-a-week cannot.

GOOD TO KNOW

+
Overlapping skills, different emphasis. Acroyoga moves through shapes in flows. Partner acrobatics holds harder positions, standing on shoulders and hand-to-hand, and trains the strength and precision they need.
+
We do not run an introduction level in partner acrobatics, so for most people no. Start with an acroyoga Introduction cycle, learn to base, fly and spot, and come across once those are comfortable. There are exceptions. If you come from gymnastics, dance, circus or another sport where you already have the body awareness and some of the basics, ask us first and we will tell you honestly which class to walk into.
+
Not for the weekly classes, which rotate like any other. For advanced work a steady partner helps, because some skills need the same two bodies repeating them, but that is something people find in the classes rather than before them.
+
Several days of training in one place, with time to drill things properly instead of meeting them once a week. Some are retreats in the mountains, some are intensive trainings here in the city, and they come up every now and then rather than on a fixed calendar. They are announced as events, so they appear above whenever one is open.

THE HALLS

We do not have one studio. Classes run in sports halls around the city, most often the Sporthalle Sihlfeld in Kreis 4, the Tanzdach at the Jugendkulturhaus Dynamo in Kreis 6 and the gym halls at the TBZ on Sihlquai in Kreis 5. In good weather we move outdoors to the Josefswiese. Every class page names its own hall, and that is the address to turn up at.

What the halls have in common: sprung or matted floors with crash mats, and the spotting equipment a class needs. What none of them have is showers, so plan for that.

THE SCENE

Zürich has rooms that open their floor to acrobats outside class hours, which is where most of the repetition this discipline needs actually happens. Training between classes is not optional at this level. It is the difference between a skill you have seen and a skill you own.
